Three Ways to Make Your New Year’s Party Shine

Believe it or not, a new year is upon us once again. Whether you’re celebrating in a new home or one you’ve lived in for years, the new year is always the perfect time to reflect on the past year and to look forward to what the new year might bring. Although this holiday is typically one many people choose to go out to celebrate, we prefer to spend it at home with friends and family.

Our parties are never fancy affairs, but we look forward to them nonetheless. It’s a time to unwind from the craziness of the holidays, and to enjoy and reflect with the entire family. The kids get to stay up until midnight (a rare treat), and the adults enjoy talking, playing games and grazing on delicious finger foods all night long. The best part is, no one has to leave — everyone is free to spend the night or take a cab home if there isn’t a designated driver.

We believe all you need is three key elements to make a great party, especially on New Year’s Eve: family, food and fun.

Family

One of the tenets of our business is family, and one of the most important things that makes the holidays so special is spending time with our families — immediate and extended. In that extended family we include our friends who are like family and who have also been with us every step of the way. This New Year’s Eve, gather up your friends, family, neighbors — whomever you’d like to ring in the new year with. Make sure they know this is a casual event. Invite them to spend the night if they like — better to play it safe on this holiday. Make it casual and easy.

Food

There is no party at a Weiland house without great food. But, after the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s understood that New Year’s is a time to relax and take the pressure off the host or hostess to take care of feeding another crowd. With that in mind, we ask everyone to bring an appetizer to share. Don’t worry about repeat dishes — after all, is there really such a thing as too many appetizers covered in bacon? You can also ask everyone to bring beverages to share or take care of that part yourself. Make sure to have some sparkling apple cider or other juice for the kids — they love to ring in the New Year with something sparkly as well!

Fun

While we can certainly get by with casual conversation all night, we like to take our fun level up a couple of notches with games. Games are a way to gather together groups of people that might not know each other well, or to just have simple fun. From board games to card games and silly holiday games to outdoor games (weather permitting), we like to do it all.

You can either designate “game times” or just have games set up in different areas of the house: board games in the kitchen, card games in the living room, kids’ games in the lower level, yard games outside or in the garage — whatever makes sense for your home. While your guests might need a little prompting at first, we bet your house will be filled with game time in no time, not to mention laughter, relaxation and good, old-fashioned fun.
